Details: The Heart of Teesdale Landscape Partnership will be holding the very first of its half yearly forums at the Bowes Museum on Saturday, 19 May 2012. The event will be an opportunity for the local community to find out how the projects are progressing and then participate in a heritage workshop. Representatives and members of the public are invited to contact the Partnership to reserve a place and receive further details. The focus for the event will be on Teesdale Heritage, Conservation and Planning, with contributions from a range of speakers to update on policy and practice from national to local level. First, Gavin Scott and Bryan Harris from Durham County Council will highlight developments in county and neighbourhood planning, and changes to conservation areas in Teesdale. Jules Brown from the North of England Civic Trust (NECT) will then outline the processes behind statutory and local listing schemes, and how a pilot project for local listing could benefit the area. The final part of the programme will concentrate on the preliminary findings of the recent Teesdale Heritage Audit which has been seeking views on what heritage activities and resources currently exist, and how they could be supported and extended. Alex Smith and Jules Brown from the NECT will give an interim report on the consultation and responses, and the session will then open for discussion on how these could be taken forward by the Partnership and other groups within the Dale. The final report will be circulated later in the year and will contribute to a long term action plan.
