Ideas have been drawn from the variety of sources in the industrial North East - Iron smelting, lead mining, ship building, manufacturing and social events such as the hoppings. The works displays the imagination and creativity of the each artist her professional approach to the subject matter. Gillian Arkley, Rose Stanley, Chris Dixon and Anne Tuck work together to share ideas and expertise, each artist aware of the collective aspect of the exhibition, while pursuing her own ideas and remaining independent in her approach and style. Experimentation with materials and techniques is at the core of the work. The sketch books illustrate how each artist develops an idea through to the finished piece and tare works of art in themselves.
